FINE ART PRINTS
‘Mother’ is a portrait of Tamika and her son. Tamika, a proud Aboriginal, Torres Strait and South Sea Islander, is passionate about creating a movement for social change, challenging injustice on climate change and racial equality. She is dedicated to raising her son to be proud of his heritage and culture. Filled with emotional resonance, I painted this portrait as a visual representation of the unbreakable bond between mother and child. I wanted to draw attention to this sacred moment, honouring the invaluable wisdom and resilience embodied by mothers, particularly in nurturing their children's self-confidence and identity. I had so much fun creating this piece, pushing the looseness and movement to new limits compared to some of my other works. I love the warmth showing through the sky and the contrast of light in the focal area, drawing the eye in. I aimed to create a moody colour palette with the pop of yellow and purple complimenting each other.

‘Admiration’ was born from a photo I captured at the Margert Olley and Ben Quilty Exhibition in Brisbane called ‘A Generous Life’. I captured this woman completely captivated, admiring the detail and feeling of the artwork. I was inspired to create this artwork in appreciation and to show my gratitude to the arts and all creatives in the world. This piece has further inspired me to build a body of work called ‘Admiration’ that aims to capture the experience of the viewer in the scene, admiring the beauty around them. This piece was selected as a finalist in the Queensland Figurative Art Prize and also received a commendation.
